Past Events

Ride for MND was born in 2020, two years after Davy was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. The purpose was to help drive awareness of this life-shattering disease and raise funds to help find a cure. Whilst we are always looking forward to the next challenge, find a little summary below of our past fundraising campaigns and escapades!

  • North Coast 500

In August 2020, Davy, Tommy and friends cycled the North Coast 500.  The 500 mile route circumnavigates Scotland’s remote northern coastline and climbs the equivalent height of Mount Everest. The team, supported by friends and family completed the route in 4 days. The campaign earned Davy a Points of Light Award from the Prime Minister and he was voted Cycling Weekly 2020 Fundraiser of the Year.

  • World In A Day

World in a Day was a corner stone of Doddie Aid, a mass participation event encouraging everyone to get active in January and raise funds to help find a cure to MND. It was founded by former British and Irish Lion, Rob Wainwright with Davy as Captain for Team Edinburgh in 2021 and 2022. The World in a Day event was led by world record holder Mark Beaumont. We all joined the virtual peloton cycling around the globe from ‘comfort’ of our homes, completing 240 miles each.

  • Doddie Cup

The Doddie Cup 500 ride was the closing challenge of Doddie Aid. The ride took place between Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh and the Principality in Cardiff in 500 mile nonstop 48 hour relay, delivering the match ball ahead of the Doddie Weir Cup. Unfortunately the Welsh won!
